João Arrobas is a Portuguese pianist and composer based in Bern, Switzerland, currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Composition at the Hochschule der Künste Bern under the mentorship of Andreas Schaerer and Stefan Schultze. He previously completed his Master's in Jazz Performance under the guidance of Django Bates, following a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Piano from ESMAE in Porto and over ten years of classical training in Bragança.

Since relocating to Switzerland, João has performed his original music at a range of festivals and concert venues, including the International Jazz Festival Bern and Langnau Jazz Nights. He has shared the stage with ensembles such as CECO Quartet, Alessandro Alarcon Trio, and Lucien Palak Quartet, and is currently performing with Espar and A’Tuin, among other projects. His main artistic project, QUICKSAND, navigates undefined genres and musical textures while staying grounded in the language and tradition of jazz, providing a platform for his creative voice as bandleader. He has also collaborated with several Big Bands in northern Portugal, most notably with the Orquestra Jazz de Espinho alongside guest artists such as Elliot Mason and João Barradas.

João's musical style is heavily influenced by pianists such as Bill Evans and Tigran Hamasyan, along with his classical roots and a deep connection to Portuguese folk music. His playing and compositions reflect this rich blend of influences, contributing a distinctive voice to every project he undertakes.
